As an individual, I was able to grow my cultural awareness in many occasions. I am fluent in French and English, where French is my mother tongue and English was learned in my late teens. Immersing myself in an English-speaking community taught me different skills that can be useful in my teaching career. In addition, I spent 3 years teaching in South Korea where I was able to immerse myself in a foreign culture and learn some key sentences in the Korean language. As these immersion times occurred during my adulthood, I was able to process and learn under a meta-cognition mindset. It provided me with great insights within cultural awareness, my own biases, and how I learned foreign languages. I can now apply these competencies to improve my teaching and to develop a greater understanding of my students and develop a positve rapport with them.
